Steps for Life

I wanted to share a story with you about Terri O’Brien from Catholic Health Initiates and her colleagues. After attending a self-care workshop, she and her colleagues were inspired to support each other in their self-care journeys by creating a simple tracking chart and holding each other accountable. Every day, they each have to run or …

I amazed myself today…….

Accept when it’s time to make a change and go for it. It’s difficult to face the unknown but it makes you stronger and professionally better. The happiness and confidence you develop from the experience is overwhelming. I am so much happier actually doing what I love instead of just going through the motions.

Patient chart laughs

More patient chart laughs* The patient refused autopsy. While in ER, she was examined, x-rated and sent home. She stated that she had been constipated for most of her life, until she got a divorce. Did something funny happen to you last week?  Share your humor and bring a smile to others! *Source: Lederer Richard …

Raising My Awareness

It’s Laura again, back to share with you my experience with My Self-Care Journey Assessment. I took it a few days ago. It’s all electronic – I just sat down in front of my computer, made everyone else in the house disappear, and I was done in no time. The format was easy to use: …

AONE was great! Thank you for such awesome support!

Wow! What a great conference! Always exceptional and well supported, this year was wonderful. I personally appreciate the awesome support for My Self-Care Journey and our booth was swamped with leaders who care about self-care…their own and the staff they manage. things that make you go “huh?”

Have you ever read a patient chart note that made you stop and scratch your head? On the second day the knee was better, and on the third day it disappeared. The patient was to have a bowel resection. However, he took a job as a stock broker instead. Patient has two teenage children, but …

Nursing can be both rewarding and stressful.  Understaffed and overworked units can result in a nurse feeling loads more stress than reward.    Are you looking for ways to reverse this spiral? Here are a few suggestions to think about: Lead by example and be a role model. Take time to compliment your colleagues. Smile …

my new shades

“Last weekend I was with people whom I have only read about in nursing leadership books and journals, the most highly accomplished group I have ever been in  such close contact with that I found myself over the top in awe. I was nervous, shaky and ok, perhaps I peed myself just a little. One …

I’m excited for my journey

My name is Laura and I have been a nurse for 40 years.  I currently work at an outpatient clinic.  Our practice is very busy with patient appointments and walk ins, as well as numerous patient phone calls that need to be answered on a daily basis and we seem to be constantly understaffed (sound …
